SEW motors are widely used in industrial automation and robotics.
SEW motors are electric motor products manufactured by SEW‑EURODRIVE, a German company commonly referred to in China as Saiwei Motors. It is a multinational international group specializing in the production of a wide range of motor series, gear reducers, and variable‑frequency drive systems, with its headquarters located in Bruchsal, Baden‑Württemberg, Germany. SEW‑EURODRIVE operates wholly owned manufacturing plants, assembly facilities, and sales and service offices worldwide, spanning all five continents and nearly every industrialized country.
The operating principle of a SEW motor is based on electromagnetic induction and motion control. When current flows through the motor’s windings, a magnetic field is generated; this field interacts with the permanent magnets on the rotor, producing torque that drives the motor’s rotation. Meanwhile, an encoder monitors the motor’s rotational angle and position, feeding this information back to the controller. The controller processes these feedback signals, generates control commands, and adjusts the motor’s speed and direction to meet the specified motion requirements.
SEW motors possess numerous notable characteristics. First, they feature a simple structure, compact size, light weight, low losses, and high efficiency. Compared with DC motors, SEW motors eliminate drawbacks such as commutators and brushes; compared with induction motors, they exhibit higher efficiency and power factor, a larger torque-to-inertia ratio, reduced stator current and stator resistance losses, and the advantage of measurable rotor parameters that enable superior control. Moreover, SEW motors—particularly those employing rare-earth permanent‑magnet materials—can achieve significantly higher air‑gap flux density, allowing their performance to approach optimal design levels, thereby reducing both volume and weight. At the same time, permanent‑magnet synchronous motors offer excellent control characteristics, with vector control systems capable of delivering high‑precision, high‑dynamic, wide‑range speed regulation or positioning control.
SEW motors are widely used in industrial automation and robotics, serving a broad range of applications including automated equipment, medical devices, printing machinery, CNC machine tools, machining centers, packaging machines, textile machinery, material handling systems, and metallurgical equipment. Their outstanding performance and energy‑efficient design give SEW motors strong market competitiveness.
