What is a gear reducer?
A gear reducer is a mechanical gear system designed to reduce the input speed to a slower output speed while maintaining or increasing the output torque. Its operation relies on a set of rotating gears mounted on an input shaft with high rotational speed; this input speed is transmitted to the gear train, where both speed and torque are modified. The number of gears in a gear reducer assembly depends on the specific speed requirements of the application.
Two-stage reduction gearbox
A gear reducer is used when the driving gear has a smaller diameter and fewer teeth than the driven gear. This contrasts with the case where the driving gear is larger and has more teeth, which is referred to as an overdrive transmission.
The gearbox is an essential component in cars and trucks, converting the engine’s high rotational speed into the slower wheel speed needed to safely harness the vehicle’s power.
