Classification of Helical Gear Reducers

   Worm gear motor

A worm gear drive consists of a worm and a worm wheel. The worm is similar to a screw and meshes with the teeth of the worm wheel. When the worm is driven, the worm wheel rotates slowly, delivering high torque.

   Automatic braking

In the opposite direction, the assembly exhibits self‑locking. This occurs when the worm’s lead angle is smaller than the coefficient of friction, or when the gear ratio is sufficiently high. Consequently, the worm‑gear system can lock itself when the direction of the applied force is reversed. This self‑locking capability often eliminates the need to procure a more expensive brake‑equipped motor.

   General Solution

Worm gear motors are characterized by high quality, compactness, and a versatile design. This allows the gearboxes to be mounted in a variety of configurations within machinery or applications. These robust drive units operate quietly, resist impact, and meet today’s stringent performance requirements across the board.

  A robust and quiet solution

  Quasi-hyperboloid gear motor

Our energy-saving alternative to worm gear drives is a hypoid gear motor, which features a unique hypoid gear whose centerlines are offset rather than intersecting. A key advantage of hypoid gears is their high gear ratio, reaching up to 300:1.

   Efficiency

Compared with conventional worm gear drives, hypoid gear drives primarily exhibit rolling friction between the gears, whereas the sliding friction between the worm and worm wheel is relatively high, resulting in significant losses. In contrast, this type of rolling friction generates virtually no losses, thereby ensuring high efficiency. BEGE’s hypoid gear drives feature Gleason helical gearing and one or two stages of helical gears. All gears are hardened and ground, and they conform to hypoid gear geometry.

   Energy-saving alternatives

Hypoid gearboxes and worm‑gearboxes differ in energy efficiency, particularly at higher gear ratios. This design also offers interchangeability with existing conventional worm‑gearbox systems.

All of this makes hypoid gear motors a highly suitable, energy-efficient alternative to conventional worm‑gear drives.

  Helical bevel gear reduction motor

To achieve the most right-angle solution, helical (bevel) gears are required. These gears feature helical teeth and have intersecting gear axes. We offer two-stage and three-stage helical bevel gear drives, always employing hardened and ground gears.

   Efficiency

The gear geometry and high manufacturing accuracy ensure that the teeth in the transmission remain in optimal mesh at all times, minimizing rolling resistance. This results in exceptionally high efficiency for helical bevel gear units, making them an ideal choice for S1‑100% duty‑cycle applications in medium‑ to heavy‑duty industrial settings. Our versatile right-angle helical bevel gear motors deliver consistent, reliable performance even under harsh operating conditions.

   Longevity

The higher the efficiency, the less heat and wear generated by the gears, bearings, and seals. This means that helical bevel gear motors have a longer service life, and a longer service life translates into reduced downtime and lower total cost of ownership for the drive.
