The cycloidal pinwheel assembly operates under compression rather than shear.
Harmonic drive gearbox
The cycloidal pinwheel assembly operates under compression rather than shear. Unlike gear teeth, which have only limited contact points, two-thirds of the cycloidal pinwheel’s reduction elements remain in continuous contact. This design enables cycloidal reducers and gear motors to withstand impact loads exceeding their rated capacity by up to 500%, delivering exceptional performance, reliability, and long service life even in the most demanding applications.
Efficient and compact
The design of the in-line vertical cycloidal reducer makes it a highly efficient, compact unit capable of transmitting high torque.
Technical Information
The key to the SPEED overhead conveyor drive’s unparalleled performance and reliability lies in the fact that, unlike gear designs that rely on limited tooth contact, 67% of its reduction‑stage components remain in continuous contact.
It is ideally suited for demanding applications in the food and beverage processing, packaging, agricultural processing, as well as the chemical and pharmaceutical industries.

Terms of Use
1. The cycloidal gear reducer is suitable for continuous-duty operation and can run in both forward and reverse directions.
2. The rated speed of the input shaft is 1500 rpm; when the input power exceeds 18.5 kW, it is recommended to use a 6-pole motor operating at 960 rpm.
3. For horizontally mounted cycloidal gear reducers, the operating position is horizontal. The maximum allowable horizontal tilt angle during installation is generally no greater than 15°; if this limit is exceeded, additional measures must be taken to ensure adequate lubrication and prevent oil leakage.
4. The output shaft of a harmonic drive reducer must not be subjected to significant axial or radial loads; when such loads are present, additional measures must be implemented.
Wide measurement range
Choose the size and modifications that best suit your needs. HP ratings span a wide range, with outputs up to 200 HP and reduction ratios as high as 658.503:1, along with dozens of application‑specific and industry‑tailored options, ensuring your operations remain free from unexpected downtime.
Running smoothly
The design of the cycloidal reducer enables its reduction components to operate with smooth rolling motion, preventing tooth breakage—a common issue in conventional gear drives—thereby ensuring the product’s durability and long service life.
High efficiency
Rolling Contact – All major torque-transmitting components operate by rolling rather than sliding. Rolling motion helps reduce friction and improve efficiency. Single-stage efficiency approaches 93%, while two-stage efficiency is around 86%.
Durable and long-lasting
The tooth profile of a cycloidal gear drive distributes the load across multiple teeth, thereby reducing the likelihood of tooth breakage. At least 66% of the ring‑gear rollers and the convex lobes of the cycloidal disk share the impact load during compression. Furthermore, the primary torque‑transmitting components within the cycloidal drive are manufactured from high‑carbon chromium bearing steel, hardened to a Rockwell hardness of HRC 61–63, and precision ground. As a result, Varitron cycloidal drives can withstand intermittent shock loads up to 500% of their cataloged torque rating.

Lubrication:
1. In normal operation, horizontal cycloidal gear reducers are lubricated by an oil bath, with the oil level maintained at the midpoint of the sight glass. Under harsh operating conditions or at elevated ambient temperatures, circulating lubrication may be employed.
2. At ambient temperatures, cycloidal gear reducers are typically lubricated with 40# or 50# mechanical oil. To enhance operational performance and extend the service life of the reducer, it is recommended to use 70# or 90# extreme-pressure gear oil. When operating under high or low temperature conditions, the choice of lubricant should be reassessed.
3. When installing a planetary cycloidal gear reducer in a vertical orientation, it is essential to prevent oil starvation at the oil pump to avoid damage to the reducer’s components.
4. When refueling, unscrew the vent cap on the upper part of the base to add oil; when draining, unscrew the drain plug at the bottom of the base to release the used oil. The reducer is shipped from the factory without lubricant inside.
5. During the first oil‑filling operation, run the equipment for 100 hours and then replace the oil to thoroughly flush out any accumulated contaminants. Thereafter, change the oil every six months (based on an 8‑hour workday). If operating conditions are severe, shorten the oil‑change interval as appropriate. Experience has shown that frequent cleaning and oil changes—such as every 3 to 6 months—play a crucial role in extending the service life of the gearbox. Throughout operation, replenish the lubricant regularly.
6. For newly installed gear reducers, lubricant should be replenished and the oil changed every six months, using aluminum disulfide–2# or 2L-2# lithium-based grease.
