Precautions for SEW Gearboxes

There are certain precautions to observe when operating machinery. When using and running SEW gear reducers, please pay attention to the following points:

When a SEW gearbox is required to achieve a low rotational speed, deceleration can be accomplished through friction between the gears. When this deceleration method is employed, the motor’s rated power must meet the specified requirements.

When mounting transmission components onto the SEW output shaft, striking the component with a hammer is both improper and prohibited. Typically, external force or auxiliary tools are used to secure the part, and the transmission component is pressed into place using bolts. If this procedure is performed incorrectly, internal components of the gearbox can be severely damaged. Rigid‑type machinery is generally not recommended, as it is difficult to install; improper installation may lead to bearing failure and, in severe cases, shaft breakage and unexpected safety incidents.

SEW gear reducers should be securely mounted on a horizontal surface, such as the floor or on a base that is anchored to the ground. Ensure that oil in the drain pan can drain freely without backflow, and that external cooling air can circulate unimpeded to facilitate heat dissipation. If installation is inadequate, operation will generate excessive vibration and noise, ultimately leading to bearing and gear failure or fracture.

The installation setup should take into account the standard height of personnel, ensuring that most operators can easily access the equipment and conveniently operate its buttons and components. After positioning, perform a thorough inspection to confirm proper alignment, verify that all fasteners and clamping devices are securely tightened, and ensure that the installed parts rotate smoothly with minimal vibration or any unusual phenomena. If abnormal noises occur, immediately stop operation and promptly identify and rectify the cause of the malfunction. After a period of use, re‑check the oil level to prevent damage to the housing and oil leakage. If the oil temperature becomes excessively high or low, consider changing the oil grade or temporarily halting the reducer’s operation.
