Reducer Model and Its Meaning
The model designation of a reducer and its corresponding meaning refer to a system of letters and numbers used to identify and differentiate reducers based on their type, specifications, and performance. Each character or digit represents a specific attribute, such as the type, number of gear stages, reduction ratio, mounting configuration, and more.
The following provides a detailed explanation of the specific meanings of these models:
Reducer type code
Z: Denotes a gear reducer. These reducers offer high load-carrying capacity and are widely used in various types of machinery.
J: Denotes a worm gear reducer. This type of reducer features smooth transmission and low noise.
T: Denotes a spiral bevel gear reducer. This is a new type of transmission that boasts low noise and high transmission efficiency.
B: Denotes a worm gear reducer. This type of reducer is suitable for heavy-duty, high-power, high-torque applications, such as equipment used in metallurgy, mining, and lifting operations.
Transmission stage code
Numbers 1–4 indicate the number of gear stages in the reducer. For example, “1” denotes a single-stage reducer, “2” denotes a two-stage reducer, and so on.

Deceleration ratio code
Ratio: Indicates the speed ratio between the input shaft and the output shaft; for example, “10” denotes a reduction ratio of 10. This parameter is crucial for determining the reducer’s actual output speed.
Installation Type Code
B: Indicates flange mounting.
C: Indicates hollow-shaft output.
D: Indicates direct‑mount installation.
Other Information Code
M: Indicates a dedicated reducer.
N: denotes a low-noise gearbox.
Taking a specific model as an example, such as “BWY27-23-7.5,” the designation breaks down as follows: “B” stands for cycloidal pinwheel reducer; “W” indicates a horizontal mounting configuration; “Y” signifies that it is equipped with an induction motor; “23” denotes the gear ratio, corresponding to an output speed of 23 r/min; and “7.5” indicates that the matched motor has a power rating of 7.5 kW.
Example model numbers for different series of gear reducers
Worm gear reducers, such as the NMRV and S series, feature a compact structure, smooth transmission, and low noise, and are widely used in industries including metallurgy, mining, and chemical processing.
Planetary gear reducers: such as the B series and X series. These reducers offer advantages including a high gear ratio, compact size, and light weight, making them particularly well suited for applications requiring large gear ratios and high torque.
Bevel gear reducers, such as the DBY and DCY series, are primarily used to transmit motion and power between two intersecting shafts. They feature high load-carrying capacity and high transmission efficiency.
Harmonic drive reducers, such as the RV and RW series, offer smooth transmission, a high reduction ratio, and low noise, making them widely used in industries like textiles, light manufacturing, and food processing.
