A pendulum gear reducer typically refers to a harmonic drive gearbox.
A pendulum‑type reducer, commonly referred to as a harmonic drive reducer, requires careful and professional installation to ensure proper operation and extend its service life. The following are the general steps for installing a harmonic drive reducer:
I. Preparations
Verify the model and specifications: Ensure that the selected cycloidal gear reducer’s model and specifications match your requirements and meet the intended application needs.
Equipment inspection: Check the reducer’s exterior for damage and verify that all internal components are present.
Site Cleanup: Clear the installation area to ensure there are no debris, dust, or other factors that could interfere with the installation.
Tools Preparation: Prepare the necessary installation tools, such as wrenches, screwdrivers, and lifting equipment, and ensure that all tools are in good working condition and easy to use.

II. Installation Base
Mounting the Base: Place the reducer’s base at the installation location and use a level to ensure it is perfectly horizontal and securely fastened.
Fixed base: Secure the base to the installation location using bolts or a mounting fixture.
III. Connecting Transmission Components
Connecting the input shaft: According to equipment requirements, connect the input shaft to the reducer. Ensure the connection is secure and inspect for any looseness at the joint.
Connecting the output shaft: If you need to connect the output shaft, make sure the connection is secure and check for any looseness at the joint.
IV. Installing the Motor
Selecting a coupling: Based on the connection method between the motor and the reducer, choose an appropriate coupling or other connecting device.
Connecting the motor: Attach the motor to the input shaft of the reducer, ensuring a secure connection and checking for any looseness at the joint.
V. Installing the Cycloidal Wheel
Inspect the cycloidal wheel: Ensure that the two cycloidal wheels are a matched pair, meaning they can be perfectly aligned. Each cycloidal wheel is marked; during installation, the marked side must face upward.
Installing the cycloidal wheel:
Place one cycloidal wheel into the needle gear housing, then rotate the other cycloidal wheel by 180 degrees (with a single-tooth difference) so that the tooth profiles and bearing bores of both wheels align perfectly.
Place the eccentric bearing, the spacer ring, and the second cycloidal wheel in sequence. Ensure that each component is correctly positioned, with no misalignment or looseness.

VI. Inspection and Commissioning
Installation Inspection: After installation is complete, verify that all components of the reducer are properly secured, with no missing parts or loose connections.
Manual testing: Manually rotate the pendulum wheel by hand to verify that it turns smoothly, with no sticking or jamming.
Coaxiality Check: Verify the coaxiality of the reducer, ensuring that the coaxiality error between the reducer’s input shaft and the driven equipment’s output shaft remains within the specified tolerance.
VII. Connection to the Lubricating Oil Piping System
Clean the piping: Ensure that the lubrication oil lines are clean and free of contaminants.
Add lubricant: Add the appropriate amount of lubricant as specified in the reducer’s instruction manual to ensure proper lubrication and heat dissipation.
VIII. Safety Tips and Records
Safety Reminder: After installation is complete, provide users with safety guidelines for operating the gearbox, including daily maintenance, routine servicing, and important precautions.
Installation Records: Document the reducer’s installation details, including the installation date, installer, equipment specifications, and other relevant information, to facilitate subsequent management and maintenance.
By following the installation steps and precautions outlined above, you can ensure the cycloidal gear reducer is installed correctly and operates reliably. If any questions arise or issues occur during installation, consult a qualified professional or refer to the reducer’s user manual.
