What precautions should be taken when using SEW gear reducers?
SEW gear reducers are widely used across many industries, yet many people overlook the necessary precautions. Ignoring these can shorten the equipment’s service life, so it’s crucial to pay close attention to detail when operating such machinery.
1. If a relatively low output speed is desired, this can be achieved by connecting two gear reducers in series. When selecting a transmission scheme, you can size the motor power accordingly and rely on the reducer’s maximum output torque; however, the reducer’s output torque should not be calculated based solely on the motor power.
2. When installing transmission components onto the output shaft of an SEW gearbox, do not use a hammer to strike the shaft. Instead, employ a mounting fixture and the internal threads at the shaft end, then press the bolted component into place—this is the correct procedure. Conversely, using a hammer may damage internal parts. Also avoid rigid couplings; improper installation can induce unnecessary external loads, leading to bearing failure, reduced service life, and, in severe cases, even fracture of the output shaft.
3. The SEW reducer must be securely mounted on a stable base to ensure proper drainage of oil from the oil drain pan and maintain adequate airflow. When operating this equipment, protective guards should be installed; therefore, a heavy-duty model is recommended.
4. During installation, ensure that personnel can easily access the vent plug and the drain plug. After the unit is in place, verify the accuracy of all mounting positions according to the prescribed sequence, tighten all components securely, and confirm that the assembly rotates smoothly.
In short, when operating an SEW gearbox, it’s important to pay close attention to many detailed considerations; doing so can help extend its service life.
